Victims Voice:my experience of losing our son to murder

When my son Aaron was murdered 18 years ago, I had no idea where to turn to for help. I knew that my family was at the very beginning of experiencing something so terrible, it would change our lives forever. The shock, the pain, the on-going mental, emotional and physical trauma was something I had never experienced before and I knew we needed help. In the beginning, it was hard to imagine how we would survive the next hour, let alone what lay ahead. The darkness that overtook our lives threatened to destroy everything. What we needed, what we searched for, was a lighthouse in the harbour that could guide us out of the storm to safe shores and help us navigate the deep waters of this new life that we found ourselves in.

We searched and finally found help and that made all the difference. It didn’t make it go away, but gave us the support to help us through our darkest time. Finding help is one of the biggest challenges we face in our struggle to first survive and then somehow learn to live again. We shouldn’t have to struggle to find out where and what resources are available. Victims Choice website was created to help people like you and me get the help we need and deserve. It gives us a simple, easy way to find and access available services. We don’t have to make this journey alone, there is help available and this website will give you the information to find the help you need to help you and your family make the journey across the ocean of grief and trauma and make it to the other side.
