I am referring to a few years ago, when my niece was young. After the assessment, the first time she came for her appointment there was nobody there. This was never explained and the appointment next time the counsellor was late. At the assessment I had the impression  that the counsellors were trauma informed and used.methods that could help but in subsequent sessions my niece didn't find the counsellor even very empathic. She accidentally missed a session and now feel this was to do with anxiety as it was so hard to talk about to someone not too empathic. She was very very traumatised. On another occasion she wasn't aware she had an appointment and apparently missed one. She was discharged immediately by letter. Nobody tried to find out what happened or if she was coping,  nobody ever addressed the fact the counsellor had been late and not turned up. She had apparently missed two sessions it was not 3 as she was told was the max.  I don't want to.discredit a service that could potentially help.somrone, but my niece was very young and in desperate need and was treated without regard for the level of trauma she was in when  she came for help. It did. more harm than good, and set the course for years of ptsd. Which could havebeen averted with real help. I say this to help you understand how vital it is to care on an.i individual.human.level and understand that deep trauma requires care such as being there when you say you will, communicating clearly and accutately when spppontments are, but having understanding if the client messes up slightly due to the trauma, and checking in with them.if they don't show. That needs to be basic.  I'm sorry, it was quite some time ago but it took.its toll.
